The 17-year-old forward aims to make a significant impact in the Highland League.

Fraserburgh FC is thrilled to announce the loan signing of 17-year-old striker Fraser Mackie from Aberdeen until the end of the season. The young forward, a native of Fraserburgh, is expected to make his debut this Saturday against Clachnacuddin in the Breedon Highland League, bringing fresh energy and talent to the squad.
Local talent joins the hometown club
Mackie, who joined Aberdeen on a full-time basis in the summer of 2023, has been a standout performer in the Dons’ under-18 team, consistently finding the back of the net. Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “Fraser is someone we’ve been keeping our eye on.
We’d hoped to get him sooner, but with Aberdeen involved in the UEFA Youth League, it didn’t happen. Thankfully, Aberdeen contacted us again to say this might be an option, and they’ve been first-class with how they’ve progressed this.”
Expectations for the young striker
Cowie is optimistic about Mackie’s potential impact on the team, noting, “I’m delighted to get Fraser on board. He’s a Fraserburgh lad and a striker. We already have Scott Barbour, the Broch’s record goalscorer, in our squad, and I believe Fraser can follow in his footsteps. He’s left-footed and quite diminutive like Scott, although I think he’s a bit faster!” Cowie emphasized the importance of providing Mackie with ample exposure to senior football, as the team competes for points and trophies in various competitions.
Other team updates and upcoming matches
As Fraserburgh prepares for their match against Clach, they are currently sitting fourth in the Highland League standings, having gone unbeaten in their last four outings. However, the team will be without key players Josh Meekings, Joe Malin, and Allan MacPhee for the upcoming game. Meanwhile, Nairn County has also made headlines with the signing of Millar Gamble, a 22-year-old center-half from Brora Rangers, who is expected to bring leadership and experience to the squad.
With the Highland League season heating up, teams are eager to secure crucial points as they head into the new year. Turriff United, for example, is on a positive run, looking to extend their unbeaten streak against Keith. Manager Warren Cummings believes that the team’s recent success is fueled by the frustration of earlier performances, stating, “We’d like to keep the run going if we can. We’re probably still hurting a bit about the period where we hardly won a game.”
As the league progresses, all eyes will be on the young talents like Mackie and Gamble, who are poised to make their mark in the Highland League. Fans are hopeful that these new signings will not only enhance their respective teams but also contribute to the excitement of the league as a whole.
