Police investigate theft of £277 worth of spirits from local store
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a Co-op store in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, was the target of a break-in that resulted in the theft of a significant quantity of spirits. The incident occurred around 1am at the Burghmuir Drive location, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
Details of the incident
According to reports, the thieves managed to steal a “bunch of spirits” valued at approximately £277. Fortunately, a worker at the Co-op confirmed that no other items were taken during the break-in, stating that the thieves were unable to access the cigarettes.
This incident marks a troubling trend for the store, which was previously broken into in July, resulting in the theft of a smaller quantity of alcohol.
Impact on the community
The break-in had a notable impact on the store’s operations, as it typically opens at 6am. However, due to the incident, the Co-op did not open until around pm, more than six hours later than usual. This disruption not only affected the store’s employees but also the local community, who rely on the Co-op for their daily shopping needs.
Ongoing police investigation
Police Scotland responded to the incident shortly after it was reported, with officers attending the scene to conduct inquiries. A spokeswoman for the police stated, “At around am on Saturday, December 28, we were called to a report of a housebreaking at business premises in Burghmuir Drive, Inverurie. Officers attended and inquiries are ongoing.” The police are urging anyone with information regarding the break-in to come forward and assist with the investigation.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of retail crime in the area, raising concerns among local business owners and residents about safety and security. As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful for a swift resolution and increased measures to prevent future incidents.
