The Aberdeen manager is determined to turn the team's fortunes around.

Aberdeen Football Club is currently facing a challenging period, with manager Jimmy Thelin determined to steer the team out of an eight-game winless streak. The Dons suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Dundee United, conceding a late goal that left the players and fans reeling.

Thelin acknowledges the emotional toll this loss has taken but emphasizes the need to focus on future performances.

Recent struggles and emotional aftermath

Following the dramatic 1-0 loss at Tannadice, where Kevin Holt scored the decisive goal, Thelin described the atmosphere in the dressing room as charged with frustration.

The team has now lost three consecutive matches, managing to secure only three points from their last 24 available. Despite these setbacks, Thelin believes that the performance against Dundee United showed signs of improvement compared to their previous match, where they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Kilmarnock.

Building on performance and teamwork

Thelin stated, “There is frustration when we lose a game like we did. However, we also have to think that the season is not over and we need to find a way out of this.” He highlighted the importance of effort and teamwork, noting that the players demonstrated better cohesion on the pitch against Dundee United. The manager is keen to build on this performance as they look to regain their winning form.

From a strong start to a challenging phase

Aberdeen’s current struggles are a stark contrast to their impressive start to the season, where they went unbeaten in their first 16 matches, securing 15 victories. At one point, they were level on points with league leaders Celtic. However, the recent downturn has seen them slip to third place in the league, just three points ahead of fourth-placed Dundee United. Thelin is aware that consistency is key, stating, “You have to be clear, you have to be consistent. You have to be pushing for the right direction and try to find a way out.”

Looking ahead: Transfer window and squad strengthening

As the winter transfer window approaches, Aberdeen is reportedly interested in Latvian international defender Kristers Tobers. Thelin confirmed that the club has made an offer to Grasshoppers, Tobers’ current team in the Swiss Super League. The manager expressed optimism about strengthening the squad, stating that the board is supportive of his efforts to enhance the starting XI. However, when asked about Tobers, Thelin remained tight-lipped, saying, “No.”

With the season still in its early stages, Thelin is focused on building a resilient team capable of overcoming their current challenges. The Dons aim to harness the lessons learned from recent performances and channel them into future matches, striving to regain their winning momentum.
