Topics covered
In 2016, a unique bond began to form between Lynne Mollison and her daughter Anna Wilson in Aberdeen, Scotland. Their journey into yoga started with weekly classes at Foodstory, where they would spend Sunday mornings together.
This routine not only strengthened their relationship but also ignited a shared passion that neither of them anticipated would lead to becoming yoga instructors and hosting retreats abroad.
From childhood to yoga instructors
Lynne, originally from Monifieth, moved to Aberdeen over two decades ago, where Anna was born.
Their family’s journey took them to Oman for five years, providing a carefree childhood filled with beach days and outdoor activities. Upon returning to Scotland, Anna embraced her new environment, transitioning from competitive trampolining to yoga at the age of 12. This shift marked the beginning of her deep connection with yoga, which she found to be a more enjoyable and less competitive outlet.
Lynne, a part-time primary school teacher, qualified as a yoga instructor in 2017. She began teaching from their home studio in Finzean and later expanded her practice to the Heritage Hall in Culter. Anna, inspired by her mother’s journey, followed suit and became a qualified yoga teacher at just 18, teaching vinyasa classes at Breathing Space in Aberdeen. Their mutual support and encouragement have allowed them to thrive in their respective teaching styles while deepening their bond.
A family affair: Yoga and wellness
Their passion for yoga extends beyond just the two of them. Lynne’s mother, at 75, actively participates in their fitness routines, showcasing a family legacy of health and wellness. Lynne has been a vegetarian since she was 17, and Anna’s journey into plant-based living began at 12, leading to a family-wide embrace of healthier eating habits.
Cooking became a shared activity, with Anna taking the lead in preparing plant-based meals, often showcasing her culinary skills on social media. Their commitment to health and wellness is evident in their daily routines, which include gym sessions, pilates, and even sea swimming, further solidifying their bond.
Yoga retreats: A dream realized
After attending a yoga retreat in Portugal, Lynne envisioned hosting her own retreats. Upon returning home, she proposed the idea to Anna, who eagerly accepted. Their first retreat was a success, blending Lynne’s meditation and journaling sessions with Anna’s vinyasa classes. The duo’s synergy and shared vision made the retreat a memorable experience for all participants.
Excited by their success, they are set to host another retreat in Catalonia, Spain, which has already garnered significant interest and is fully booked. Their retreats, while rooted in their mother-daughter relationship, are open to all women, emphasizing inclusivity and community.
Looking ahead
Lynne and Anna’s journey in yoga has not only transformed their lives but also created a platform for others to explore wellness and mindfulness. Their ability to predict each other’s thoughts and actions enhances their collaboration, making their retreats a unique experience. As they look to the future, both mother and daughter are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead in their yoga journey, proving that their bond is as strong as their passion for yoga.
