Forres High Street is experiencing a remarkable transformation, showcasing a vibrant retail environment that is attracting new businesses and fostering community support. With the recent availability of a prime retail unit at 131 High Street, there is an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurs looking to establish their presence in this bustling town.

A flourishing retail landscape

The health of Forres’s retail sector is evident, as the town saw the opening of 11 new shops last year, with ten of those located on the High Street. According to the Moray Chamber of Commerce’s annual report, Forres outperformed other towns in the region, averaging 10 new shops compared to just 1.5 in other Moray towns in 2024.

This surge in new businesses highlights the growing appeal of Forres as a retail destination.

Local support fuels business success

Recent newcomers to Forres High Street have expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming local support they have received. Bianca Judd, owner of Uly & Ro, a home decor and craft store, shared her positive experience since opening in September. “I loved Forres the first time I visited,” she said, emphasizing the town’s charm and community spirit. Her decision to open a shop on the High Street was influenced by her husband’s local roots and the established businesses already thriving in the area.

Bianca’s advice for aspiring business owners is to conduct thorough market research and identify gaps that need filling. She actively engages with her customers to understand their preferences, which has proven invaluable in shaping her product offerings. This proactive approach has helped her build a loyal customer base, ensuring her shop’s success.

Community-driven entrepreneurship

Similarly, Gill and Weller de Oliveira, who opened The Olive Tree Kitchen, a takeaway coffee house, have found their first months in business to be rewarding. They feel a strong sense of belonging within the local business community and have received immense support from loyal customers. “It has been incredible to connect with so many people from the local community,” Gill remarked, highlighting the importance of community ties in fostering business growth.

The couple chose Forres High Street for its vibrant atmosphere and potential for growth. They noted that the area is thriving and attracting visitors from beyond the local community, making it an ideal location for new ventures. Gill encourages others to consider opening their businesses in Forres, citing the supportive environment and the sense of community as key factors for success.

Prime retail space available

The final available unit at 131 High Street is currently on the market for £550 a month. Morscot Properties, the estate agent handling the listing, describes the unit as having a “beautiful reception” with ample natural light streaming through the windows during the summer months. The newly refurbished space includes a private room, a separate toilet area, and plenty of storage in the basement, making it an attractive option for prospective business owners.

Previously occupied by Colonic Health, this unit has a history of serving various businesses, including a nail bar and the Forres Gazette office. Its prime location and modern amenities make it a desirable choice for those looking to capitalize on the growing retail scene in Forres.
