Aberdeen FC has made headlines with the acquisition of Danish utility player Alexander Jensen, a move that has been described by manager Jimmy Thelin as a significant coup for the club. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract after the Dons agreed to a transfer fee of approximately £545,000 (€650,000) with Allsvenskan side Brommapojkarna.

This deal could potentially rise to £839,000 (€1 million) with performance-related add-ons.

Strengthening the squad

Thelin expressed his satisfaction with the signing, highlighting the extensive efforts made by the club’s staff over several months to finalize the deal.

He remarked, “It’s another piece of the jigsaw complete in terms of strengthening the squad, and providing some reinforcement, particularly as we are experiencing some long-term injuries at the moment.” Jensen’s versatility, being able to play in both full-back positions and midfield, adds depth to the Dons’ lineup, which is crucial as they navigate a challenging season.

Jensen’s journey and ambitions

Jensen began his professional career at FC Midtjylland in Denmark, later making appearances for Vejle BK and FC Fredericia before moving to Sweden. During his time at Brommapojkarna, he made 71 appearances and scored five goals. Upon joining Aberdeen, Jensen expressed his excitement, stating, “Aberdeen is a big club and I feel this is the right step for my career.” His eagerness to contribute to the team is evident, as he aims to showcase his skills to the passionate Aberdeen supporters.

Impact on the team dynamics

With the addition of Jensen, Aberdeen is not only enhancing its squad depth but also addressing the current injury crisis affecting key players. Thelin is optimistic about Jensen’s ability to adapt quickly, despite the player being at the end of a close season. “He may take a little time to get up to speed, but we will work hard with him in the coming days and weeks,” Thelin noted. The manager’s confidence in Jensen’s potential impact this season reflects the club’s ambition to climb the Premiership standings.

New arrivals and upcoming challenges

Jensen is not the only new face at Aberdeen; the club has also secured the loan of young Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Alfie Dorrington, further bolstering their defensive options. Dorrington, who recently made his debut for Spurs, is seen as an exciting prospect with the potential to grow in a competitive environment. The Dons are gearing up for their next match against Rangers, a crucial fixture as they aim to break an 11-game winless streak and improve their position in the league.
