Incident Overview
An Aberdeen man, Zoltan Anderson, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison after pleading guilty to a violent robbery that occurred in a high-rise lift. The incident took place two years ago in Beachview Court, Seaton, where Anderson attacked a man who had come to purchase drugs.
The court heard that Anderson, who appeared in a wheelchair due to a previous accident, used a knife to inflict severe injuries on his victim.
Details of the Attack
On November 12, 2022, the victim entered the lift on the 15th floor to buy £20 worth of controlled substances.
As he entered, Anderson struck him from behind, knocking him to the ground. Witnesses reported that Anderson demanded the victim’s belongings, shouting phrases like ‘give us the prize’ while stabbing him and delivering punches to his head. The victim managed to escape, realizing later that his phone and house keys were missing, along with suffering significant injuries, including a deep cut to his arm.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the attack, police conducted a thorough investigation, tracing Anderson through a trail of blood found in the lift and at the entrance of the building. Blood was also discovered on the door of a flat where Anderson was located. During questioning at Kittybrewster Police Station, Anderson made troubling statements about the victim, suggesting he deserved more severe consequences for the incident.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
During the court proceedings, fiscal depute Kirsty Martin detailed the violent nature of the assault and the injuries sustained by the victim, which included bruising and multiple cuts. Anderson’s defense attorney, Alex Burn, argued that his client was a vulnerable individual who had recently lost a leg in a hit-and-run accident and was emotionally distressed following the death of his mother. Despite these claims, Sheriff Ian Wallace emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating that only a custodial sentence was appropriate. Anderson was ultimately sentenced to 22 months in prison, with time served on an electronic tag deducted from his sentence.
