Police seek public assistance following theft of tools and machinery

In a shocking incident, thieves have struck a cemetery located south of Fort William, making off with tools and machinery valued at thousands of pounds. The theft, described by authorities as a ‘high-value’ raid, occurred overnight between December 13 and January 23, prompting police to seek assistance from the public in identifying the culprits.
Details of the theft
The incident took place at Na Birlinn Cemetery, situated approximately eight miles from Fort William. According to reports, the thieves gained access to the cemetery and specifically targeted a digger parked within the grounds. They stripped valuable parts from the machinery, including tools and work equipment worth around £2,500.
Additionally, lights were removed from the digger, resulting in damage to the vehicle.
Police investigation and public appeal
Constable Joan MacIver of Police Scotland has stated that inquiries into the theft are ongoing. She has urged anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area, particularly any suspicious vehicles, to come forward with information. “If you were driving in the vicinity during the time of the theft, please check your dashcam footage, as it could provide crucial evidence,” she emphasized.
