Aberdeen’s transfer updates: Dabbagh’s debut delayed, Knoester ready to play
Aberdeen FC is currently navigating a challenging period as they prepare for their upcoming match against Dunfermline Athletic. The club’s manager, Jimmy Thelin, has confirmed that new signing Oday Dabbagh will not be available for his debut due to pending work visa issues.

The Palestine international striker, who joined the Dons on transfer deadline day from Belgian club Charleroi, is expected to enhance the team’s attacking options once his paperwork is finalized.

Oday Dabbagh’s situation and potential impact

Dabbagh’s absence is a setback for Aberdeen, who have struggled offensively, scoring only once in their last eight Premiership matches.

The 26-year-old striker, known for his strong positioning and ability to find space in the box, could provide the much-needed spark to a faltering attack. The club has the option to make Dabbagh’s loan move permanent if he performs well during his time in Scotland. Thelin expressed optimism about Dabbagh’s potential contributions, stating, “He has a different profile, so it’s good to have this mix of strikers to help us get more opportunities inside the game to score goals.”

Mats Knoester’s debut and defensive reinforcements

In contrast to Dabbagh’s situation, fellow transfer window signing Mats Knoester is eligible to make his debut this Sunday. The 26-year-old Dutch centre-back has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Dons, and his work visa has been successfully processed. Thelin praised Knoester’s experience and composure, highlighting his strong left foot and high game understanding. With the team facing an injury crisis, Knoester’s arrival is timely, as the Dons look to solidify their defense and improve their overall performance.

Injury concerns and squad depth

Aberdeen’s injury woes have compounded their struggles, with several key players sidelined. Goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov, striker Ester Sokler, and midfielder Jamie McGrath are among those currently unavailable. Mitov, who has been out since late December, is nearing a return, with Thelin estimating he could be back in one to two weeks. Meanwhile, Sokler’s hamstring injury will keep him out for an additional three to four weeks. Thelin has urged his players to reflect on their performances, stating, “Sometimes in bad runs you have to actually look at the mirror – on what is our goal and what we want to show.”

As Aberdeen prepares for the cup clash, the team is eager to break their league winless streak, which has now reached 14 games. Thelin is hopeful that the upcoming match will see a more intense and aggressive performance from his squad, as they aim to regain their form and confidence on the pitch.
