Greggs to replace Subway, enhancing the food offerings at Union Square.

Topics covered
The Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen is set to welcome a new addition that will delight pastry lovers. The beloved bakery chain, Greggs, is expanding its footprint within the mall, taking over the space previously occupied by Subway, which recently closed its doors.
Exciting changes for food enthusiasts
Greggs already has a presence at Union Square, but this new location will offer a more spacious environment for customers. The official opening date is still pending, but it is anticipated that the new bakery will be operational by spring.
This expansion will see Greggs move from its current site at 4 East Mall, which lacks seating, to a larger unit at Unit 33, still conveniently located on the ground floor near the bus station.
Union Square’s evolving retail landscape
The closure of Subway, a staple at Union Square for over a decade, was announced last week, marking a significant shift in the shopping centre’s food offerings. Ryan Manson, the centre director, expressed enthusiasm about the growth of the mall, stating, “This growth reflects the positive retail and leisure environment we’ve fostered at Union Square and we’re grateful to our customers for their ongoing support.” He also hinted at more exciting retail openings on the horizon, indicating a strong demand for space within the centre.
New dining options and brand interest
Union Square has seen a flurry of activity this year, with new dining options emerging to cater to diverse tastes. Recently, the Indian restaurant Singh Street opened on the first floor, and the anticipated openings of global brands like Wingstop and Maki and Ramen have been revealed. Despite some closures, including Fat Face and Superdry, the shopping centre is witnessing a positive trend with increasing interest from brands looking to establish a presence in the area.
In a strategic move, women’s brand Hobbs is set to take over the unit previously occupied by Hollister, while Victoria’s Secret will move into the former Superdry location, investing £500,000 in renovations. These developments highlight Union Square’s commitment to evolving its retail landscape and meeting consumer preferences.
