Seafest 2025 cancelled due to venue challenges
The annual Seafest celebration in Lossiemouth, which showcases the town’s rich fishing heritage, will not take place this year. Organisers have confirmed that the festival, a week-long event that draws visitors from across the north-east, has been cancelled due to difficulties in securing a suitable venue for the event’s marquee.
This decision, communicated to stallholders, has left many in the community disappointed.
Challenges faced by the organising team
According to the festival’s organisers, the small team has been stretched thin due to their extensive work on the Lossiemouth Christmas Lights.
They expressed gratitude to the community for their ongoing support but acknowledged that the uncertainty surrounding the community asset transfer of Station Park has made it increasingly difficult to find an alternative venue that meets the necessary requirements for the marquee. The organisers stated, “Unfortunately, firstly due to the uncertainty of the community asset transfer of Station Park, it has proved very difficult to find an alternative venue with the requirements needed to site the marquee.”
Community impact and future plans
The cancellation of Seafest not only affects the organisers and stallholders but also the local community that looks forward to this vibrant celebration each year. The festival typically features live music, sporting events, and a variety of food and drink stalls, creating a lively atmosphere that brings people together. In their statement, the organisers assured the public that they would keep everyone updated regarding any decisions about the future of Seafest, particularly for 2026. They also highlighted their commitment to continue fundraising for the Christmas lights, which they successfully installed last November, stating, “Our team will continue to raise funds with the help of the community for the Christmas lights 2025.”
Support for local initiatives
Despite the setback with Seafest, the organisers have remained active in supporting local initiatives. They have donated £5,700 from their funds to ten local groups and organisations, including the RNLI and the 4th Lossiemouth Boys Brigade. This commitment to community support underscores the organisers’ dedication to fostering local connections and ensuring that Lossiemouth continues to shine, especially during the festive season. As they prepare for future events, the organisers are hopeful that the community will rally together to support their efforts.
