The community of Oldmeldrum is mourning the loss of Lindsay Allardyce, a beloved artist and mother, who passed away at the age of 50 after a courageous battle with bowel cancer. Known for her vibrant Nordic folk art and unique sculptures, Lindsay’s creative spirit and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

A journey through art and family

Lindsay was born on March 18, 1974, in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, as the youngest of three children. Her adventurous spirit was evident from a young age, as she moved with her family to Inverurie and later to Newburgh, where she developed a passion for sports and creativity.

Her artistic talents flourished during her time at Edinburgh’s Napier University, where she studied graphic design and publishing.

In 1996, Lindsay’s life took a significant turn when she met musician Keith Allardyce at a local pub. Their connection was instant, leading to a loving partnership that would last for decades. They married in January 1999 and welcomed three daughters: Beth, Daisy, and Peggy. Lindsay’s role as a mother was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into raising her girls while nurturing her artistic talents.

Artistic contributions and community impact

As a mother, Lindsay began creating small wooden hearts for her daughters’ birthday parties, which quickly gained popularity among other parents. This sparked her journey as an artist, leading her to create beautiful pieces inspired by vintage and Nordic designs. Under the name “daisyglaisy,” she produced album covers, textile collages, and ceramics, showcasing her remarkable talent.

Her artwork extended beyond personal projects; Lindsay participated in various community initiatives, contributing to sculpture trails across the northeast of Scotland. Notable pieces include “The Parting Song” in Lerwick Harbour and a lighthouse sculpture for CLAN. Her artistic endeavors not only enriched the local culture but also raised significant funds for charities, particularly those related to cancer, which became a poignant aspect of her legacy.

A battle against cancer and a legacy of strength

In 2018, Lindsay received a shocking diagnosis of bowel cancer, a battle that would test her resilience and strength. Despite the challenges, she faced her illness with grace and determination, continuing to create art and engage with her community. Her husband, Keith, described the past five years as the hardest of their lives, yet they remained united as a family, cherishing every moment together.

Even in her final days, Lindsay’s spirit shone brightly. She organized her affairs, ensuring her daughters would have cherished memories and support. Her passing on February 16, 2023, marked the end of a remarkable journey, but her legacy lives on through her art and the love she instilled in her family.

A celebration of life

Lindsay’s life was celebrated on March 6, 2023, at Baldarroch Crematorium, where family and friends gathered to honor her memory. Her brother delivered a heartfelt eulogy, emphasizing the joy and happiness she brought to those around her. The event was filled with music and laughter, reflecting Lindsay’s vibrant personality and the love she shared with her community.

As the Allardyce family navigates life without Lindsay, they carry her spirit with them, guided by her wisdom and love. Keith remarked, “If we ever don’t know what to do, we just have to think, what would Lindsay do? And then crack on!” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of Lindsay Allardyce—a remarkable woman whose legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew her.
