Aurora Energy Services expands with a new division in Aberdeen, enhancing local operations.

Aurora Energy Services, an energy firm based in Inverness, has made significant strides since launching its new division in Aberdeen just four months ago. The company has successfully secured contracts worth £3 million, leading to the creation of over 30 jobs, with expectations for further growth in the near future.

Integrated services division driving growth

The newly established integrated services division focuses on a range of activities including engineering design, procurement, offshore and onshore installation, construction, and decommissioning. Tom Smith, the chief operating officer of Aurora Energy Services, expressed his satisfaction with the division’s performance, stating that it has “surpassed expectations.” The division is strategically located in Dyce and is managed by brothers Josh and Kane Winton, both of whom bring extensive project management experience to the table.

Leveraging transferable skills for renewable energy projects

Aurora Energy Services is capitalizing on its expertise in the oil and gas sector, particularly through the use of digital laser scanning technologies, to secure significant projects in the renewable energy sector. Kane Winton highlighted the versatility of their offerings, noting that project awards for laser scanning and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services across various sectors, including hydropower and wind power, demonstrate a strong demand for their capabilities. The company has been busy, with over 60 personnel on-site delivering construction and laser scanning services, a trend that is expected to continue into the first quarter of 2025.

Future growth and investment in infrastructure

At the launch of the new division, Aurora anticipated hiring 30 additional engineers within the first six months. However, they are on track to exceed this target by the end of Q1 2025. Tom Smith remarked on the high demand for cost-effective full lifecycle services in the energy sector, which has driven the uptake of their integrated services by both existing and new clients. The company is set to provide a range of services for a major hydroelectric power station in Scotland, a pioneering thermal energy storage project, and has been commissioned to survey multiple wind turbines across the UK.

Investment in local infrastructure and training

Aurora Energy Services has invested £750,000 in its new property, Ury House, located in Howe Moss Crescent, which has been renamed Aurora House. The firm is also part of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport consortium, which aims to promote sustainable economic growth in the region. With a large training and competency academy in the Highlands and an in-house design and fabrication facility in Huntly, Aurora is well-positioned to support the energy transition while expanding its workforce, which currently exceeds 275 employees.

As Aurora Energy Services continues to grow and adapt to the evolving energy landscape, its commitment to innovation and sustainability remains at the forefront of its operations. The company’s global reach, with operations in North and South America and Australia, further underscores its ambition to lead in the energy sector.
