The expansion reflects Survitec's commitment to marine safety and local employment.

Topics covered
Survitec, a leading manufacturer of inflatable survival equipment, is set to enhance its operations with the opening of a new factory in the Aberdeen area. This strategic move comes as the company aims to bolster its production capabilities and further its commitment to marine safety.
With a workforce of 250 employees in Aberdeen and an additional 100 in Peterhead, Survitec is a significant player in the local economy.
New facility to support growth in marine safety
The new facility, located on Badentoy Avenue in Portlethen, spans 3,000 square meters and will serve as the new service station for life rafts, life jackets, and immersion suits.
This transition from the existing site in Findon is part of Survitec’s broader strategy to optimize its operations while continuing to operate the Findon facility, which will now focus on the company’s expanding lifeboat division.
Ronnie Vettese, the managing director of Survitec Group’s Marine UK division, described the investment as “significant,” highlighting Aberdeen’s crucial role in the company’s growth trajectory. “We have outgrown the facilities at Findon,” he stated, emphasizing the need for expansion to meet increasing demand for safety equipment.
Commitment to innovation and safety
Survitec is dedicated to producing equipment that protects lives, with a strong emphasis on research and development. The company invests heavily in creating innovative safety solutions, with 90% of its products designed for situations that ideally never occur. Vettese noted, “People have to have the confidence that when they go to use it, it will operate.” This commitment to quality and reliability is essential for maintaining trust in the marine safety sector.
In addition to its ongoing success in the offshore oil and gas industry, Survitec is expanding its reach into other markets. The company has secured contracts with Scotland’s ferry services, including CalMac, and is investing nearly £40 million in developing the world’s largest inflatable lifeboat, which can accommodate over 1,000 passengers and crew.
Future outlook and local impact
As Survitec adapts to changing market conditions, Vettese emphasized the importance of looking towards the future. “We need to adjust and we are doing that as a company,” he remarked, referring to the need for innovation in response to environmental concerns. The expansion is expected to create four new jobs, aligning with Survitec’s growth plans in the region.
Survitec’s long-standing presence in Aberdeen has fostered a strong relationship with the local community. Vettese expressed pride in the company’s commitment to the area, stating, “We have invested a lot in the Aberdeen market, and the people here have confidence in us, our team, and our products.” As the world’s largest survival technology solutions provider, Survitec continues to play a vital role in enhancing safety across various sectors.
