In a remarkable tale of strength and determination, Kyle Scott, a 23-year-old bus driver from Aberdeen, is making waves in the world of strongman competitions. Having recently joined First Bus after relocating from Northern Ireland, Scott has taken his passion for strength training to new heights, literally pulling a 12-tonne double-decker bus as part of his training regimen.

From bus driving to strongman competitions

Scott’s journey into the world of strongman began during the pandemic in 2020 when he was inspired by watching the World’s Strongest Man competition on television. The thrill of witnessing athletes like Oleksii Novikov and Tom Stoltman pushed him to pursue his own strength training.

“I thought driving a big vehicle like a bus seemed like something cool,” Scott shared, reflecting on his initial attraction to the job. His colleagues at First Bus were taken aback when they learned about his strongman aspirations, often expressing disbelief at his ability to compete in such a demanding sport.

A rising star in strongman competitions

Since his competitive debut in 2021, Scott has rapidly ascended the ranks in the under 80kg (U80) category. His impressive accolades include winning Ireland’s, the UK’s, and the prestigious Natural World’s Strongest Man title in 2023, making him the first athlete to achieve this remarkable feat in consecutive years. “It’s hard to believe my own progress sometimes,” he admitted, reflecting on his journey from aspiring athlete to champion. Scott also set a record for the heaviest atlas stone lift in his weight category, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

Preparing for future challenges

As he gears up for two upcoming competitions, including Ireland’s Strongest Man U90 and the Northern Europe Qualifier for the Natural World’s Strongest Man U90, Scott is contemplating a move to a higher weight category. “I’m quite tall for a U80 strongman and I’m still quite young, so I’m still growing into my frame,” he explained. This transition will introduce him to a new level of competition, but Scott is ready to embrace the challenge. “It’s a big difference with a whole lot of new competitors and heavy weights,” he noted, emphasizing his commitment to continuous improvement.

With his sights set on becoming one of the strongest men in the world, Kyle Scott is not just a bus driver; he is a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with dedication and hard work, anyone can achieve their dreams.
