Champion Street 2025: A revival of Aberdeen’s beloved kids’ football tournament
The Champion Street football tournament is making a triumphant return to Aberdeen in 2025, reigniting the passion for youth football in the community. With the tournament set to kick off on July 14 and run until August 10, excitement is building among players, coaches, and families alike.

This revival, spearheaded by local football coach Daniel Kindness, promises to be a highlight of the summer sporting calendar.

Key details of the tournament

Champion Street 2025 will feature matches primarily held at Kincorth Field/Bobby Douglas Park, a location secured through Kindness’s connections with local football clubs.

The tournament will include three distinct age-group competitions, ensuring that children from various age brackets can participate and enjoy the spirit of the game. The age groups will be divided into primary 6/7s playing nine-a-side, primary 3/4/5s competing in seven-a-side matches, and a mini tournament for primary 1s and 2s featuring five-a-side games.

Community involvement and team registration

With over 30 teams already registered, the tournament is free for all teams, welcoming participants from both Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Registration will close on April 26, and interested teams can sign up via the Champion Street 2025 Facebook page. In a nod to the tournament’s tradition, teams will be formed based on geographical areas, allowing players from smaller towns to join forces with those from larger communities. This approach fosters a sense of local pride and camaraderie among participants.

Sponsorship and funding efforts

The enthusiasm surrounding Champion Street 2025 has attracted significant interest from local businesses eager to sponsor the event. Kindness has reported that more than 20 companies have expressed their willingness to support the tournament, which is crucial for covering costs such as equipment, trophies, and other essentials. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been established to help raise £5,000 for the tournament’s operational expenses, already surpassing £1,000 in donations.

Volunteer opportunities and community support

As the tournament approaches, the organizing committee is calling for volunteers to assist with various tasks, from setting up pitches to managing crowd control. The response from the community has been overwhelming, with many individuals eager to lend a hand. Kindness emphasizes the importance of community involvement, stating that the success of Champion Street 2025 relies on the collective effort of local residents.

With the tournament just around the corner, the excitement is palpable. Champion Street 2025 not only aims to provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills but also seeks to strengthen community bonds through the love of football. As the event draws nearer, all eyes will be on Aberdeen as it prepares to host this cherished tournament once again.
