A heartfelt journey of remembrance and community support in Aberdeenshire.

In a touching tribute to his late fiancée and newborn son, Simon Allsop from Aberdeenshire is embarking on a charity walk to raise funds for Links Nursery in Balmedie, where his partner, Amy Finnie, was cherished by both children and staff.
This initiative comes after a tragic year marked by the loss of Amy, who passed away just a day after giving birth to their son, Aiden, in March of last year.
Tragic loss and community support
Simon, 29, has been vocal about the emotional turmoil he has faced since the heartbreaking events of last year.
In an interview with The Press and Journal, he expressed the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare, wishing to wake up to a different reality. The couple had planned to marry in July 2022, and May 28 would have marked their eighth anniversary. The community has rallied around Simon, showing immense support during this difficult time.
Walking for a cause
Last year, Simon and his family participated in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk, raising £7,200 for the charity Sands, which focuses on stillbirth and neonatal death. This year, he is set to walk 17.8 miles from Duthie Park in Aberdeen to Bellfield Park in Banchory, aiming to raise funds specifically for Links Nursery. The nursery had previously established a JustGiving page in memory of Amy and Aiden, which has already raised £3,523 to be donated to a cause of Simon’s choice.
A legacy of love
In his heartfelt message on the JustGiving crowdfunding page, Simon shared, “I am taking part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk this year, in memory of my fiancée Amy and our son, Aiden, who I lost last year.” He emphasized the love he has for both Amy and Aiden, stating, “I love them both so very much and miss them every day.” Initially hoping to raise £750, Simon’s fundraising efforts have exceeded expectations, currently standing at £775.
Simon’s journey is not just about raising money; it is a powerful testament to love, loss, and the enduring impact of community support. Those wishing to contribute to Simon’s cause can do so through his JustGiving page, helping to honor the memory of Amy and Aiden while supporting the nursery that held a special place in their lives.
