Last night, the Aberdeen Music Hall was alive with the vibrant sounds of youth as some of the finest young performers from the region took to the stage for the final heat of the Glee Challenge. This exciting event brought together a variety of schools from across the North East, all vying for a coveted spot in the upcoming regional final.
Celebrating Scottish contemporary music
Each participating group showcased their musical talents by performing three songs that adhered to the theme of ‘Scottish contemporary pop and rock’. A highlight of the evening was the mandatory performance of Chvrches’ hit ‘Clearest Blue’, which resonated with the audience and set a high standard for the other selections.
The students also chose two additional songs, allowing them to express their individuality and creativity through music.
Encouraging musical engagement among youth
The Glee Challenge is organized by the Frisson Foundation, an initiative dedicated to fostering a love for music and the arts among primary school children. By providing a platform for young performers to showcase their skills, the foundation aims to inspire the next generation of musicians and artists. The event not only highlights the talent within the community but also encourages participation in the arts, which is crucial for personal development and self-expression.
Looking ahead to the North East final
Following last night’s performances, the winners will join other talented schools, including Seafield, Ashley Road, Elrick, and Fernielea primary schools, in the North East final scheduled for May 13. This event promises to be a celebration of youth talent and creativity, with tickets available on the Aberdeen Performing Arts website.
