After a serious incident last year involving a pensioner who fell down the hotel’s lift shaft, the owners, the Paymán Club, took immediate action to ensure the safety of their guests. The hotel was issued a prohibition notice by fire chiefs, prompting extensive renovations to address fire and safety deficiencies.
Chief Executive Fritha Jaine confirmed that significant improvements have been made, including the replacement of corroded fire escape staircases and updates to guest rooms.
Jaine emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating, “We want the hotel to look smart for the reopening.” The renovations not only focus on safety but also aim to enhance the overall guest experience, ensuring that visitors feel secure and comfortable during their stay.

In addition to safety improvements, the Stromness Hotel is committed to fostering a closer relationship with the local community. The management has actively sought feedback from past guests and local residents, particularly regarding staffing levels, which were a common concern in previous reviews. Jaine assured that there will be an increase in staff on site to provide better service and enhance the guest experience.
“We’re making sure we have more staff this time,” she noted, highlighting the hotel’s dedication to addressing community concerns. The hotel also plans to host events that encourage local participation, further solidifying its role as a community hub.

Alongside the reopening of the hotel, the restaurant will also resume operations, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The management expressed excitement about reintroducing the dining experience, stating, “We can’t wait to welcome you back and share some lovely times with you all.” Guests will have the unique opportunity to bring their own alcohol for private events, adhering to the hotel’s no-alcohol policy while still accommodating personal preferences.
