New hospitality spaces at Banks o’ Dee FC

Stuart Clarkson of PB Devco is spearheading this initiative, which aims to repurpose the upper floors of 491-493 Union Street. The proposal includes two two-bedroom apartments and a one-bedroom apartment, catering to the growing demand for housing in the area. However, environmental health experts have raised concerns about noise levels, necessitating further studies before the project can proceed.

Fraserburgh’s culinary expansion

Meanwhile, in Fraserburgh, the owners of the Andersons delicatessen are looking to expand their offerings by transforming a nearby storage building into a new restaurant, aptly named Cafe at No 10. This venture aims to meet the increasing demand for dining options in the area, particularly among local students and residents. The proposed cafe will serve a variety of fresh sandwiches, specialty coffees, and healthy drinks, with plans for extended operating hours to accommodate the community’s needs.

Reviving historic spaces

Another noteworthy proposal involves the transformation of the closed North Street Dentist building into a residential home. The plans outline how the existing structure will be repurposed to create a comfortable living space, preserving the building’s historical significance while meeting modern housing needs. Similarly, in Ballater, the owner of The Auld Manse seeks to extend an outbuilding to create a compact two-bedroom home, respecting the architectural heritage of the area.

Belmont Cinema’s revival

Perhaps one of the most anticipated projects is the revival of the Belmont Cinema, which closed its doors in October 2022. A dedicated group of local film enthusiasts has taken the initiative to restore the beloved venue, submitting plans to refurbish its interior and enhance the overall guest experience. The proposed upgrades include improved seating, a repositioned bar, and a new canopy to attract visitors. While the estimated costs have risen to £3 million, the community remains hopeful for the cinema’s return.
