Remembering a life lost: The story of Kev Clarke and his family
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, countless families have faced unimaginable loss. One such family is that of Kev Clarke, a devoted father and husband from Bridge of Don, who tragically passed away at the age of 37.

As we reflect on his life, we uncover a narrative filled with love, resilience, and the enduring pain of loss.

A life filled with promise

Born on April 7, 1984, in Aberdeen, Kev was the first son of police constable Charlie Clarke and his wife Maureen.

From a young age, he was known for his vibrant personality and ability to connect with others. Described as a “wee angel” by his mother, he was a bright child who thrived in social settings, often making friends wherever he went. His early years were not without challenges; a serious illness during primary school tested his family’s strength, but Kev emerged resilient, continuing to excel academically and socially.

From apprentice to hero

After completing his education, Kev pursued a career as an electrician before transitioning to work offshore as a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) pilot. His passion for his work was evident, and he found joy in operating remote submarines. However, it was his bravery that truly defined him. In a heroic act during a house fire, Kev and his friend Russell Shum attempted to rescue an elderly woman trapped inside. Although they were unable to save her, their courage earned them recognition and awards, highlighting Kev’s selflessness and commitment to helping others.

The impact of Covid-19

In late 2020, as the pandemic surged, Kev and his family began to experience symptoms of Covid-19. Initially diagnosed with a chest infection, his condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to a heartbreaking hospital visit. Despite the family’s hopes for recovery, Kev’s battle with the virus ended tragically on December 7, 2020. His death, attributed to pulmonary embolism and Covid-19, left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones.

A family’s enduring love

As Kev’s family navigates life without him, they continue to honor his memory. Bex, his partner, reflects on their love and the life they built together, emphasizing the importance of keeping his spirit alive for their two sons, Westen and Raylan. The family has rallied together, supporting one another through the grief and challenges that have arisen since his passing. They cherish the memories of Kev, celebrating his kindness and the joy he brought into their lives.

Legacy and remembrance

In the three years since his death, Kev’s family has made it their mission to ensure that his legacy lives on. Bex has legally changed her surname to Clarke, a testament to her commitment to Kev and their family. As they navigate the complexities of life without him, they find strength in each other, drawing on the love and memories they shared with Kev. His story serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of loss and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones.
