Record Growth in Revenue
Hall Morrice, an independent accountancy firm based in Aberdeen, has reported a remarkable turnover of £6 million, marking a significant revenue growth of 65% over the past three years. This impressive achievement reflects the firm’s robust performance in a competitive market, showcasing its ability to adapt and thrive in changing economic conditions.
The firm has expanded its audit and advisory services, increasing its client base to over 170 businesses across various sectors, including energy, construction, retail, and professional services.
Expansion of Workforce
In response to its growing client demands, Hall Morrice has welcomed six new hires to its audit, accounts, and advisory teams this year, bringing its total headcount to more than 80 employees.
Ian Mackie, the operations director, expressed pride in the firm’s substantial growth, noting that the headcount has increased from about 45 to 85 since he joined. This growth is particularly significant given the challenges of recruiting experienced accountants in the post-COVID job market.
Investing in Future Talent
Looking ahead, Hall Morrice is committed to nurturing the next generation of talent. Plans are in place to launch a school-leaver program aimed at attracting apprentices from local schools. This initiative reflects the firm’s dedication to investing in new talent and ensuring a sustainable future for the business. Additionally, a new cohort of trainee accountants is set to join the firm in July, further bolstering its workforce.
Internal Promotions and Leadership Changes
The firm has also seen a record number of internal promotions in the last year, including the notable elevation of Louise Smith and Jack Borg-Delaney to partner positions. Louise’s promotion marks a historic moment as she becomes the first female partner promoted internally in 30 years. Meanwhile, Jack, who joined Hall Morrice in February 2024, is now part of the leadership team, contributing to the firm’s strategic direction.
Strategic Vision for the Future
Bob Bain, the managing partner, emphasized that the firm’s people are central to its success, driving continued growth through their expertise. Hall Morrice’s commitment to maintaining high standards while pursuing further growth sets it apart as one of the few truly independent firms in Aberdeen. As part of its long-term strategic vision, the firm has launched Business Advisory Strategic Services (BASS), a new division focused on financial planning, digital transformation, and data analytics, led by director Paul Archibald. This initiative aims to enhance the firm’s service offerings and meet the evolving needs of its clients.
