In a remarkable showcase of culinary talent, seven restaurants from Aberdeen have been shortlisted for the prestigious Deliveroo Restaurant Awards, which honor the most beloved local eateries across the UK. This annual event, driven by public votes, highlights the best dining experiences that communities cherish.

Celebrating local favorites

Deliveroo recently unveiled the full list of nominations, and Aberdeen’s culinary scene is well-represented. Last year, three local establishments clinched accolades, and this year, two of those winners are back in the running. Among them is Cafe 100, located on Holburn Street, which aims to retain its title for the best coffee and breakfast offerings.

Renowned for its traditional Scottish breakfast, the café also delights patrons with its exceptional coffee, rolls, and snacks.

Mexican cuisine takes center stage

Another strong contender is FreshMex, a beloved local eatery that has been serving up delicious Mexican fare for a decade. Situated on Schoolhill, FreshMex is vying to keep its title as the “Best Mexican” restaurant. The establishment has garnered praise for its homemade burritos, quesadillas, rice bowls, and crispy fries, making it a staple in the community.

Diverse culinary offerings

Aberdeen’s representation in the awards extends beyond these two favorites. Siam Cottage, known for its authentic Thai and Chinese dishes, has been nominated for “Best Thai.” The restaurant, which opened its doors in 2016, is helmed by chefs Chacharin (Neng) and TP (Nuch), who have consistently impressed diners with their culinary skills.

Additionally, Grub, which has expanded to four locations across the city, is also in the running for “Best Breakfast and Coffee.” Founded by Stuart Ross in 2010 after his graduation from Aberdeen University, Grub has become famous for its creatively named paninis and wraps.

Representing the city in the “Best Fish and Chips” category is Sea Salt and Sole, a family-friendly bistro that recently opened its doors. This popular takeaway in Dyce prides itself on using freshly caught fish and local ingredients, with recipes that change seasonally to keep the menu exciting.

Independent Restaurant of the Year nominations

Deliveroo also recognizes independent establishments with its “Independent Restaurant of the Year” award, and this year, two Aberdeen restaurants have made the shortlist: Roastie Toastie and Big Manny’s Pizza. Roastie Toastie, a toastie takeaway located at JK Fine Foods on Chattan Place, opened just last summer and has quickly gained a following for its locally-sourced wood-fired toasties.

Meanwhile, Big Manny’s, known for its impressive 18-inch New York-style pizzas, has experienced rapid growth since its launch in 2020. The trio behind the business—Calum Wright, Phil Adams, and Ashley Adams—now operates from multiple venues, including Pittodrie Street and The Adam Lounge on Holburn Street.

Voting and awards announcement

Voting for the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards is currently open until May 9, with the winners set to be announced on May 28. This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to support their favorite local restaurants and celebrate the vibrant culinary scene in Aberdeen.
