Lossiemouth FC has appointed Steve Porter as their new manager, a decision that comes with high expectations as the team currently sits near the bottom of the Breedon Highland League. Porter, who has been part of the coaching staff since the start of the season, is determined to turn the Coasters’ fortunes around and lead them up the league table.
The 38-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent two decades coaching in Elgin City’s youth academy before joining Lossiemouth.
Initially brought in to assist former manager Eddie Wolecki Black, Porter has stepped up following Black’s departure in August. He now leads an interim management team that includes Stevie Dunn and Ian Campbell, with Dunn taking on the role of assistant manager.
Porter is optimistic about the potential of his squad, which he describes as a mix of experience and youth. He believes that with the right guidance, the players can achieve better results.
“I feel I can get the best out of the players,” he stated, expressing confidence in his ability to improve team performance. The Coasters are currently 16th in the league, just two points above the bottom club, Strathspey Thistle, and Porter is keen to change that.
Porter’s vision for Lossiemouth is clear: he wants the team to be competitive in every match, regardless of the opponent. “We need to be well-drilled, difficult to beat, and display a level of consistency,” he emphasized. He is also looking to bolster the squad by adding new players and potentially bringing in another coach to assist with training and strategy.
Lossiemouth chairman Alan McIntosh has expressed confidence in Porter and Dunn, noting their hard work and dedication since joining the club. McIntosh highlighted Porter’s leadership skills, particularly during a team meeting prior to a crucial Scottish Cup match, where he effectively communicated with the players. This support from the club’s management is crucial as Porter embarks on this new chapter in his coaching career.
As Lossiemouth prepares for upcoming matches, including a challenging fixture against Brora Rangers, Porter is focused on instilling a winning mentality within the squad. With a commitment to improving performance and a clear strategy for the season, he aims to guide Lossiemouth FC to a more successful future in the Highland League.
