In the heart of Aberdeen City Centre, a remarkable bond exists between Chloe Grigby and her three-legged spaniel, Macy. This touching story illustrates not only the resilience of animals but also the profound impact they have on our lives. Chloe, 28, never intended to adopt Macy, but fate had other plans when she accompanied a friend to pick up a dog. The moment she laid eyes on the runt of the litter, she knew she had to take her home.
Chloe’s journey with Macy began unexpectedly. “I just thought, ‘Oh my God, I need to have her,’” she recalls. Growing up with pets, Chloe had a deep connection with animals, but after losing her mother and having to give up her dog, she longed for companionship. With inheritance money from her mother, she made a heartfelt plea to her father to adopt Macy, who was being bullied by her siblings.
Despite initial resistance, her father’s heart melted upon seeing the tiny spaniel, and they brought her home.
At just six months old, Macy faced a life-altering challenge when she had to undergo an amputation due to a severe infection. Chloe and her father were devastated but knew they had to make a choice: either put her down or give her a fighting chance. They opted for the latter, and while the decision was traumatic, it marked the beginning of Macy’s journey of resilience. Despite her disability, Macy’s spirit remained unbroken. She has a vibrant personality, often displaying sassiness when she feels neglected and using her charm to score treats and cuddles.
Macy’s life in Aberdeen is filled with adventures. From beach outings to coffee shop visits, she enjoys every moment. Chloe shares, “We actually can’t go past a coffee shop without her pulling us in.” Macy has also become a local celebrity, with her escapades documented on her Instagram account, @macythethreeleggedspaniel. Her love for the outdoors is evident as she participates in 10k runs and climbs local hills like Bennachie and Clachnaben.
Reflecting on her time with Macy, Chloe cherishes the memories they created during the COVID-19 lockdown. The extra time spent together allowed them to bond deeply, going on runs and enjoying each other’s company. “Every day with Macy is absolutely the best,” Chloe expresses. Watching Macy explore the world brings her immense joy, and their adventures continue to strengthen their bond.
Macy’s story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the love they bring into our lives. Chloe and Macy’s journey reminds us that even in the face of adversity, joy and companionship can flourish.
