Cinemas were allowed to reopen on July 4 but most venues decided to remain closed. More cinema chains are now officially reopening their doors.

Most cinemas in UK are reopening their hall later in the summer, in order to follow safety measures to prevent the spread of Covid.

Many cinemas were allowed to reopen on mid-July and some partially did. Most chains preferred to postpone the reopening, in order to secure the safety measures for Covid: new cleaning protocols, online booking, protective gear for employees and of course social distancing.

For this reason, the cinemas that have already reopened have offered limited screenings. Curzon has opened some of its sites, while they are planning to reopen many other venues in August. Vue has also announced it will reopen its venues in August.

Toby Bradon, territory general manager of Vue Entertainment in UK said:”The safety of those who work and visit our sites is paramount and we’ve therefore taken the time to ensure protocols and staff training are in line with the latest guidance ahead of opening.”

Vue cinemas reopening from August 7 include Doncaster, Oxford, Manchester, Farnborough, Edinburgh, Bromley and Westfield Shepherd’s Bush.

Cineworld is ready to reopen on 31 July with 4DX screenings of Harry Potter. The chain’s spokesperson said: “4DX screenings have stimulating effects such as motion, water, wind, scent and lighting – timed with precision to enhance what’s happening on screen and combined with high-tech motion programming to move your seat in perfect synchronicity.” Here’s a complete list of the main confirmed cinema reopenings in the UK, as reported by ScreenDaily:
