Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal has landed the leading role in HBO’s adaptation of the award-winning zombie survival game The Last Of Us.
Having revived his career protecting Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian, Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal, 45, will play Joel in the screen adaptation of the popular video game.
17-year-old Bella Ramsey, who was praised for portraying the wiser than her years Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones (Pascal played Oberyn Martell in the show), will also appear in The Last Of Us as Ellie.
The adaptation is set in a post-apocalyptic world where society has been destroyed by a pandemic. Joel is a smuggler who has to escort Ellie, who may hold the key to ending the pandemic, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. However, what starts as a small task rapidly becomes an epic journey across the USA with the fate of humanity at stake.
The game first arrived on the PlayStation 3 in 2013 and won several games of the year awards.
The director of video game and co-executive producer of the TV series, Neil Druckmann, said: “Stoked to have Pedro aboard our show!” He added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Bella join the TLoU family!”
Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin will feature as co-executive producer alongside Druckmann for HBO’s TV adaptation of the game.
