"The Bench" is the Duchess of Sussex's first children's book, which explores the special bon between a father and his son.

Meghan Markle’s new children’s book The Bench has been now released. Four days after the birth of her daughter Lilibet Diana, the Duchess of Sussex has published her latest book.

The Bench features the illustrations by famous artist Christian Robinson and talks about the special bond between a father and a son. The book has been inspired by the relationship between her husband Harry and son Archie, to whom it is dedicated.

Meghan has indeed included an inscription to “the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump”. Furthermore, at the end of the volume, the final illustration seems to depict Harry and Meghan’s new life in California. The scene portrays a ginger-haired man holding the hand of a little boy, who is feeding chickens. The final illustration also features a dark-haired woman cradling a baby, probably representing Lili.

A bearded ginger father, who resembles Prince Harry, is also featured in the opening illustration. The man in the drawing cradles a baby on a bench under a tree. And the text says: “This is your bench, where life will begin, for you and our son, our baby, our kin.”

Then, the book portrays a black father asleep on a bench near to his son. The boy holds a toy giraffe in one hand and his father’s hand in the other. The page reads: “From here you will rest, see the growth of our boy.”

In a following illustration, a father and a son, wearing pink tutus, put on a ballet show. The text near reads: “You’ll love him. You’ll listen. You’ll be his supporter.”

Meghan subsequently wrote: “When life feels in shambles, you’ll help him find order,” to accompany the scene of a father and a son playing with toy dinosaurs. Another illustration features a father and his son having lunch on a bench in a park. The accompanying words read: “You’ll sit on his bench, as his giving tree.”

In a page shortly after, the Duchess of Sussex wrote: “He’ll feel happiness, sorrow, one day be heartbroken. You’ll tell him ‘I love you,’ those words always spoken.”

Moreover, the book includes a father on a wheelchair, tying his son’s shoes. And the text reads: “This is your bench, for papa and son.” While on the next page, a father and a son with turbans are painted. The words alongside say: “To celebrate joys and victories won.”

Then, Meghan wrote: “Looking out at my love and our beautiful boy. And here in the window I’ll have tears of great joy…”. While the accompanying picture depicts a woman watching through a window a soldier in his combat uniform. The soldier has apparently just returned home and joyfully throws is son in the air.

Over the ending pages, Meghan added: “Right there on your bench, the place you’ll call home… With daddy and son… Where you’ll never be ‘lone.” The Bench is Meghan Markle’s second book, after taking part in Together, a cookbook with recipes from Grenfell Tower women.
