Collect all the gold jewelry for sale and compile the data about it. The information required will include the weight of gold in grams and the karat value of the pieces.

Points to remember
Most jewelry will come with a certificate telling you this value, but you may need to visit an independent assessment otherwise. Jewelry of unknown weight and karat can also be sent in and estimated by the website operators, but this is not available from all companies.

2. Get online
Searching sell gold online on any internet search engine will get dozens of results for companies willing to buy new, used or even broken gold jewelry.

Tip
To make sure you get the best price visit several of these sites to see which one will give the most money for the gold.
3. Get the estimate
Enter the weight and karat value of the gold into the form on the websites front page. This feature has been added by many of the sites to give the seller a quick estimation about how much the gold is worth.
4. Compare
Repeat the estimation stage on a variety of these websites to ensure the best price is received for the gold.

Tip
It may also be worth checking on a precious metal website to see the going rate for gold to ensure the prices quoted are not well below market value.
5. Sending the gold
There are two choices here, depending on the site visited. Some companies will send you a secure self addressed envelope through the post so that the jewelry can be sent in. Alternatively, the jewelry can be sent in by the seller in the normal fashion.
6. Receiving the money
The money for the gold will be received by post in the form of a cheque or can be transferred directly to a bank account if the seller has registered the details with the website.
