This article reviews some of the places a teenager may want to work if they prefer to work in a quieter environment. Teens can find jobs in a variety of places, but many of these jobs are in loud, busy environments.

There are a variety of jobs that are well suited to teenage workers. Jobs that do not require higher education, which have flexible schedules, are what teens look for when considering where to put in job applications. However, a large number of the jobs teens normally hold are in busy, loud environments.

A teenager who prefers to work in a quiet place may have to search harder to find the perfect job.

Library

A library is an excellent choice for a teenager who loves books and does not mind working with the public. Libraries are quiet, especially if he is working away from the circulation desk. The positions and duties will vary from one library to another. For example, the Jefferson County library hires teens 16 and older for the page position, which involves shelving books, using the library computer and other tasks. Other libraries may have the teenager actively checking out books, cleaning the facilities or reading books during story time.

Office

Some offices need part-time help answering phones, filing, data-entry or other tasks. A teenager who is responsible and skilled on the computer may be a terrific candidate for an office job. How quiet an office is will depend on the work done there, but it will not normally be loud.

Small retail stores

While the noise level at large retail stores like Wal-Mart can be overwhelming, a smaller retail store is often a quiet place to work. A bookstore, card shop, or clothing store can often be a pleasant working environment. Retail jobs are well suited to many teens, and the benefits can be enormous. For instance, those who work at The Gap can expect an employee discount of 30 to 50 per cent.

At home

A teenager can do many jobs from home and somewhat control the noise level of her environment. Babysitting is unpredictable, but watching an older child or a napping baby is normally quiet. Pet sitting and dog walking are remarkably low-key jobs that teens can hold. Cleaning houses or washing cars are also quiet jobs a teenager can do either in their own home or the homes of others.
