Eat healthily

Eating a healthy balanced diet can help alleviate many illness, and none more than hypertension. More specifically, you should try to reduce the amount of salt in your diet.

Try to cut back on the amount of salt you use to season your food and the amount you add when cooking. It would also be greatly beneficial to your health if you reduced the amount of processed food you eat, as these types of food tend to contain high levels of salt.

Cut back on alcohol

If you suffer from hypertension, a sure-fire way of combating this is to cut down on alcohol. It has been widely proven that consuming excessive quantities of alcohol can, and will, increase your blood pressure. There are many recorded cases where excessive alcohol consumption has been directly linked to death due to high blood pressure.

It is widely understood that smoking is extremely bad for your health, but for a person who suffers from hypertension, smoking is deadly. People who suffer from high blood pressure should not, under any circumstances, smoke. Furthermore, they should try their best to avoid environments where there is a risk that they may passive smoke, consuming second-hand smoke from a friend’s cigarette is just as dangerous as smoking yourself.

Reduce stress

High levels of stress can greatly aggravate high blood pressure and cause it to increase even further. Highly stressful situations and circumstances can be lethal to a person who suffers from hypertension. Therefore, for the good of your health, it is strongly advised that you avoid excessive levels of stress both at work and at home.

Involve your family and friends

Let your friends in on your health issue, and draw strength from their support. The sanctuary and understanding that they can provide will help to alleviate the worry of the situation and, in turn, will have a positive effect upon your condition.
