As tougher restrictions for 6 million people in England and Wales are about to begin, Boots has announced the launch of a new Covid testing service with ultra-rapid results and will be available in the next few weeks.
The LumiraDx devices can process swab tests to give same-day results to customers, it will cost £120 and is for those who are not suffering from covid symptoms.
Boots has also launched a 48-hour testing service, which is currently available in 10 stores across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The new coronavirus testing service will be available on selected stores in two weeks and it is aimed for customers who are travelling abroad or who just need peace of mind. The swab test has so far proved 97% accurate. The test detects the presence of a covid-19 antigen protein, a technique that allows high-speed results.
Chief executive Sebastian James confirmed the LumiraDx devices are the first big step towards mass testing on high streets. He announced this test is the cheapest private test available at the moment and with a good value compared to others on the high street.
He continued: “We hope that by offering this testing option in local community stores, Boots can help ease pressure on the NHS and the Government by providing additional access to testing and crucial reassurances for people across the UK.”
Easing pressure on the NHS certainly is a priority of this new high-speed covid testing service.
