The NHS plans to exceed 840,000 booster doses per day to stop the spread of the Omicron variant in the UK. The announcement was made by the UK’s Health Minister, Sajid Javid.
The NHS needs to exceed 840,000 recalls a day to slow the spread of the new Omicron variant, the health minister said on Monday. The statement comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that a patient affected by the new mutation had died.
Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers, declared the strain on UK health services “unsustainable” while the country struggles to cope with a spate of Omicron Covid-19 incidents.
The NHS is “busier than its ever been before.”
The chief executive of NHS providers continued : “The organisation has to respond effectively to the record number of 999 calls, the influx of emergency admissions, delays in elective procedures, the extension of the immunisation recall campaign and pressure from social services.
“That’s obviously a worry because it’s before the traditional winter peak in January and it’s before any cases really coming into hospitals and we are now starting to do in terms of Omicron cases, so we’re already at beyond full stretch, in our view, before either of those things occur, so it’s a worrying time, but as you’d expect, everybody on the NHS frontline is doing absolutely the best they can to provide the best possible care.”
This means that the population has to wait a long time for a booster dose. People who tamper with Covid passes could face a financial penalty of £10,000 under laws governing entry into nightclubs and other venues in England which come into effect this week.
