The rumors were hot and heavy regarding BMW firing team manager Davide Tardozzi, but Italian website Motonline.
it contacted the Italian manager yesterday to get it straight from the so called horse’s mouth regarding the situation and Tardozzi confirmed that he is infact leaving the German Superbike team.
Tardozzi who in January of this year signed a three year contract with BMW, will be leaving after less than a season with the team.
Here’s what he had to say about the split.
“I’m not even going to France, it would be useless.
I’m done with BMW and I have time to talk to other teams.
In the first half of the season they let me work like we agreed upon and as it should be if I was to guarantee results, then things began changing, the friction started and gradually it became worse and eventually there was a break-up, it was unavoidable.
Regardless of the results on the track, someone didn’t like the way I worked and with the complicity of others, tried to get me into trouble.
” “I got to speak with the President “- added Tardozzi – “but it’s not that I expected he could solve the problem, the situation reached such a point that even if he tried to defend me, he would have found himself in an embarassing situation.
” “Funny … And to think that this winter, when the international press was invited to BMW’s headquarters when we presented the team with David Tardozzi in the role of team manager, each manager of BMW at the event publicly stated that they wanted Tardozzi.
I even thought, what bargaining power, they’re going to make me president in awhile! To tell the truth I’ve never seen such a celebration, nor have I ever seen a contract that seemed so firm, break down in such a short time and for such trivial reasons”“What do you want me to say – it’s simply that we have two different ways of understanding how a team should work, we’re poles apart and there is absolutely no possibility that we can understand each other.
”- And now?“Now I do not know.
I’ll look around, calmly.
“- Are you going to sue for breach of contract?“No, I do not think so.
For me contracts are needed only to know who you work for and what is expected of me, not to keep them always on hand and demand that they be strictly followed.
“- Who wanted the break? Them or you?“At the point at which we were, it was the best solution for both of us.
Let’s say it was a divorce by mutual consent.
”- With such a traumatic ending, does the hypothesis of you as a team manager in the hypothetical BMW Team Italy with Badovini also end?““You can rest assured that I will not be there.
Stefano Foti is a perfect Team Manager for BMW Italy , so there is no need for me.
“- Then you’ll be going to Yamaha with Melandri? At this point it would seem the obvious solution …“Not there.
I think Yamaha has already decided to replace Meregalli with another person.
