As expected the weather forecast for this weekend’s Silverstone GP was completely true, wet, cold and windy and in these difficult conditions the fastest rider in the first free practice session was Danny Kent.
The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider lapped 2′37.
401 and he was over six tenths ahead of team mate Arthur Sissis, who is celebrating his birthday today, but suffered a crash in the final minutes.
Third place went to Efren Vázquez (Team LaGlisse) who stopped Moto3 points leader Sandro Cortese (who is suffered a scaphoid injury but seems to be recovering from his injury) from making it a Red Bull KTM Ajo 1-2-3, but he was 1.
236 seconds from the top of the timesheets.
Le Mans wet-race winner Louis Rossi was fifth followed by Jonas Folger, Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi was seventh fastest, in his third race with Suter.
He finished ahead Blusens Avintia’s Maverick Viñales who was in eighth.
Miguel Oliveira and Jasper Iwema rounded out the top ten, with Iwema also suffering a crash in the final minutes.
Due to the tricky conditions, several other riders also crashed, Alexis Masbou and Danny Webb who had led the timesheets for a while.
Romano Fenati also crashed and suffered a hand injury.
Zulfahmi Khairuddin and Niccolò Antonelli also crashed but were able to rejoin the session.
Silverstone also sees two the entry of wildcard riders John McPhee e Fraser Rogers with the KRP M3-01 Honda and the return of Toni Finsterbusch who missed the Catalunya round after breaking his right collarbone at Le Mans.
