Yamaha may not wait until Brno to decide on their second rider to field next to Jorge Lorenzo for next season.
In an interview with Italia 2 during yesterday’s Moto2 practice Massimo Meregalli, team director on Ben Spies side of the garage, announced that Yamaha will decide on their second rider between the Mugello and Laguna Seca GPs.
Keeping Ben Spies is still Yamaha’s ideal scenario according to boss Lin Jarvis but Cal Crutchlow (Ducati wants an answer from him at Mugello) and Andrea Dovizioso are still in the running, but the fact that the Japanese manufacturer will make their decision before Laguna Seca could indicate that Spies – who is important for the American market and has the backing of Yamaha USA – could have his contract renewed for a least one more season.
