If you’re spending summer in Rome, it’s a perfect time to discover Rome by night, strolling the streets in the balmy air and taking in things like the new lighting installed at the Roman forum.
The planned lighting installation was to include more monuments, but the new system shows off some of the more famous parts of the ancient ruins.

it have battled for a while to have a new lighting installation at the Roman forum, as in years gone past the central part of the forum looked like a big black hole.

Locals and tourists alike can now enjoy the view of the forum at night, especially in summer months, as 40 spotlights installed light up nine different monuments.
The lights show some of the forum’s famous monuments and were only installed after restoration and cleaning up works were carried out at the site.
The cost has been about €100,000 euros but given the low voltage lights used, future costs are estimated to be no more than that of a normal domestic house.

The lights will be on from half an hour after sunset to 2am, and should allow night visits to the forum, too.
