If you should be in Rome between 4 and 5 July and feel like enjoying a good beef steak and at the same time witnessing how a true Roman would eat a fillet, you can’t miss the famous Sagra della bistecca di Tolfa or Tolfa Steak Festival, an event organised by the Rione Cappuccini, which takes place every year.
This much awaited event is entirely dedicated to porterhouse steaks taken specifically from a local breed of wild cattle; wild cattle that can still be seen roaming and grazing by the road from Santa Severa which leads to Tolfa.
We are of course talking about beef meat of the highest quality and the most superb flavour (this is obviously from a strictly non-vegetarian point of view).
The above event includes, among other things, mini art exhibitions and if you have children, don’t worry, the venue has provided an area where they can play and have fun in complete safety! These Sagre or festivals which take place throughout Italy (from north to south) are always much loved and appreciated by the locals; such events, though not particularly refined, can also give tourists and travellers the opportunity to get to become acquainted with the local folklore and cultural aspects of Italy whilst at the same time enjoying first class healthy food.
So if you enjoy the finest food, this is not to be missed.
