A turn out for the books – Elisabetta Canalis is clearly not a silly girl.
Perhaps not a great actress, either, but then there’s plenty of mediocre company in that field for her not to stand out too much.
Both praised and criticised for her role in the Leverage television series, Canalis in the video below talks about her career and her relationship with George Clooney.
We’ll forgive her for the joke that Clooney is “better than plastic surgery” – what she’s really saying is that theirs is a youthful romance – and focus on what his celebrity status might be doing for her.
Canalis is more than famous in Italy but unfortunately it can be very difficult to take Italian showgirls seriously.
But here she’s clearly decided she’s not going to tag along as a red carpet handbag to Clooney.
So could her relationship with Clooney, regardless of the outcome, be her entré to American television culture? We could hardly say that she would have gotten her role in Leverage if it hadn’t been for her dalliance with the American actor.
You can make up your own mind about her performance – we’ve seen better but we’ve also seen worse.
More after the jump.
The big question is whether Canalis would pale into insignificance if her relationship with Clooney were to break up.
Or if their love story continues, could we see an acting duo with Canalis as side kick, maybe in an action film? Anyone for a good swashbuckling romance…? See a brief interview with Canalis above, and below, a video featuring some of her performance in Leverage as “The Italian”.
