Times are changing and changing fast; the old traditions are going down the drain and now people whenever they feel like dining out opt for chic and elegant restaurants; apparently forgetting that there are far cheaper places where one can eat and eat well! Of course I’m talking about trattorias which are a living repository of Italy’s rich culinary tradition.
This time, we’ll get a closer look at Il Gatto Nero or The Black Cat, one of the oldest trattorias in Milan, established since the 17th century.
and which has over the years become a hangout for poets and painters (singer Jannacci is an habitué).
It goes without saying that their menu only offers local cuisine dishes.
Another trattoria which deserves your attention is L’ Ambrosiana in the Niguarda District; located in what was once a slum house (with an inner yard and banisters all around), the old trattoria, established since 1896, offers exquisite rice and home-made pasta dishes and famous wines from Oltrepo.
I’m sure that you will love it, especially at the weekends when people let their hair down and belt out old folk songs ! Prices range from 30 to 35 euros per person.
