Antonio Canova's plaster cast of Napoleon back on display at the Pinacoteca of Brera, Milan

On 5 th May, the Pinacoteca of Brera celebrated, after two centuries, the return of Antonio Canova’s plaster cast of the Emperor Napoleon as the god Mars.
Commissioned by the famous artist to Vincenzo Malpieri, the plaster cast is 3 metres high and weighs 2 tons.

Unfortunately, after the fall of Napoleon at Waterloo, the work went through years and years of negligence.

But now after a major restoration curated by Matteo Ceriana, this amazing plaster cast is on display at the Pinacoteca of Brera.
