The names of international and Italian celebrities make a small list in the break up of George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis.
Around the story is Christian Vieri, showgirl Belen Rodriguez and Italy’s favourite gay television star and Chi magazine director, Alfonso Signorini.
The latter was working with Elisabetta Canalis on Italian television when the break-up occurred and tells his side of the story of what happened two days ago.
Interviewed in the Italian press, Signorini was asked:Was everything going well?Yes, I’m astonished.
The news is a surprise even for me.
Tell us what happened.
Well, five days ago I spent the whole day with Elisabetta.
From 5pm to 1am we were in the studios.
She received something like 60 to 70 sms from George, such that I said to her: “darling, you’ve got to let it go if you can’t move on together…”.
He was in London and they were going to meet the evening afterwards at Villa Oleandra.
Two days later, Elisabetta said she wasn’t available for the second episode of the show and so we had to call Belen Rodriguez.
Something happened, but I don’t know what.
Who left who?I’ve heard it was he who broke things.
She’s suffering, she’s left the Lake Como villa and has switched off her phone.
He communicated the break-up through a press release and Elisabetta must have a subscription – with Christian Vieri they broke-up like that, too.
Do you know what I think? I bet Elisabetta, if she doesn’t get back together with George, will get back together with Bobo [Vieri].
He’s still in love with her.
Did you think the relationship between Clooney and Canalis was a show?Me? Never.
They were very close.
At the beginning it was passion, and then it transformed into friendship.
He was quite paternal, but it was complicated.
It’s not easy being with a star of that calibre.
Two weeks ago we interviewed Elisabetta and she was terrified of talking about her private life.
She was afraid her words would be misunderstood and he would be irritated.
Perhaps not him, but his lawyers, his managers.
The American star system is not like ours.
Have you ever seen them together?Yes, at the beginning.
They invited me to the summer Villa Oleandra party on July 5 but at this point I’m not sure if I’ll go.
They’re the words of one Italian celebrity on how things developed, though we’re still without any details which will probably never arrive.
It’s ironic to see Canalis’ Sanremo rival, Belen Rodriguez take up the reins as Elisabetta misses her television commitments, and while Christian Vieri has just broken up with another Italian showgirl here, Melissa Satta, we’re not sure if a former Italian footballer will cut it after Clooney.
And it looks like the July 5 Villa Oleandra party might not take place – expect to find the women of the world flocking to Lake Como in the hopes of being the next to sweep Clooney off his feet.
