Traditional Tuscan cooking: restaurants in Pisa

If you’re looking for typical Tuscan cuisine in Pisa, you should try “Osteria la Toscana”.
The interior is rustic and inviting, with polite staff that aren’t too ingratiating.
The restaurant is situated in Pisa’s town centre and is easy to reach, both on foot or by car, with free parking after 8pm.

Saturday evening the restaurant is full and very busy, though service is quick and efficient.
The classic Tuscan antipasto is worth ordering as a starter, and while it’s a large serve, the first courses are not excessive.
One of the best dishes to try is meat with mushrooms and “cannellini” beans: very tender and light.

The wine list is impressive and reflects the huge wine making tradition of Tuscany, with many local wines to choose from.
Desserts are home made but didn’t seem to be typical of Pisa whose desserts are apparently based on walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and pine nuts.
The cost is about 25 euros a head, which is good value, particularly in a city with so much tourism, and you can find menus in English, and waiters who will take your order in English.

“L’osteria la Toscana” is located on Via Carducci Giosue’ in Pisa.
