If there was a ranking of the most interesting marathons in the world, the New York marathon would surely win, with its crowds of runners filtering their way through the city streets and New York skyscrapers.
But we think Venice could gain a place in such a ranking, too, as the fascination of running through narrow alleys, around Venetian architecture, would be a unique experience.
The Venice marathon takes place on October 26th, when the famous city will be filled with both professional and amateur athletes.
This is a marathon with a fabled and magical setting, where the Venetian streets, narrow and winding, and the gangways used to cross the bridges of the Venice canals can break the stride of the most experienced.
I would love to know what it is like to come from Kenya and win a marathon in a place as unique as Venice, which is what Jonathan Kipkorir Kosgei has done the last two years.
Kosgei has taken the winning place twice and could be the man to beat again if he’s competing.
