Italian Parks: Parco Sempione in Milan

The Parco Sempione can be regarded as the most famous park in Milan.
It was created by Emilio Alemagna in 1893 when the place was only a field surrounded by other fields and meadows.
Actually the park was created to embellish the famous Castello Sforzesco, but unfortunately it gradually fell into disrepair and only in 2003 the place was restored to its original beauty thanks to the City Council ‘s efforts.

The park looks like an English garden or park, featuring a pond with charming little ducks, trees and beautiful green meadows.
Visitors can still see and admire old buildings such as the Aquarium (built for the Expò in 1906) the Arena Civica, the Torre Branca projected by Giò Ponti and the Biblioteca rionale or District Library.

The park is also one of the most famous night spots in Milan; in fact many celebrities meet at Bar Bianco where they usually have a cocktail or two before moving on to something funnier, usually Just Cavalli which is just a few steps way ( Torre Branca).
But if you are not interested in nightlife and love to spend your free time jogging , playing basketball or practising yoga or martial arts in the open, don’t worry, Parco Sempione (3800 square metre in size) is the place to be! During the day the park is perfect for outdoor activities and sports!
