Youth hostels are a great favourite with tourists of all ages; they are popping up like mushrooms all over the country; so if you are planning to spend a few days in Umbria and want to save money, you can stay at one of these cheap and clean hostels for a song! The Fattoria il Poggio on Polvese island (lake Trasimeno) is a true corner of paradise; a night there in a double room will cost you only 22 euros per person; another lovely hostel is the Ostello San Marco in Cortona (on the border with Tuscany), a former monastery which was converted into a hostel only a few years ago.

Quite advantageous prices are also offered by the Ostello del Porto at Lovere, Lake Iseo (famous for its sailing school) where you can book a room for 25 euros, but if this sounds too expensive, don’t worry, you can always go to the Ostello della Pace in the enchanting city of Assisi; a room there with private bathroom and breakfast (served in room) will cost you just 19 euros per person!
