While rumours were circulating for some time, the news that David Beckham will play for AC Milan football in 2009 is almost official, after statements from Adriano Galliani.
This makes Italy’s AC Milan football team the most resplendent with fancy international names, as playing in the current season is Ronaldinho.

Beckham would be another celebrity to add to the ranks.
Currently playing for Los Angeles Galaxy in the US, Beckham would move to Milan in early 2009, on ‘loan’ for the closing part of the season.

The announcement was made on Sky Sport 24 by Galliani this morning, who is now on his way to Groningen for preparations for the UEFA cup.
The news has also appeared on the football club’s site, with only the contract details now to be confirmed.
The general manager for AC Milan has described Beckham’s inclusion as intriguing, saying though, that: “Milan does not collect figures, and is very proud of the strategy it’s currently following.

We are the only club going against the general tendency: people go to the stadium to see Milan.

It’s not a casual thing if 65,000 people go to see Milan-Sampdoria.
If 65,000 go to the stadium, it means they like the Milan product.
With respect to these 65,000, Beckham will bring a fan or two more, not less.
”On the marketing side, Milan is making no bones about the Beckham purchase then.
Carlo Ancelotti is also happy with the choice, saying “For me it will be a pleasure.
He’s a serious athlete, a great professional.
If he is available for four months with us, we will be very happy.
