Sylvester Stallone’s mother, Jackie, has passed away from unknown causes at the age of 98.
The news of her death was posted for the first time on Facebook by Frank Stallone. He wrote: “She was a remarkable woman, working out every day, full of spunk and fearless. She died in her sleep as she had wished. It was hard not to like her, she was very eccentric and flamboyant person…
She lived through prohibition, the depression and World War II. I would talk to her for hours about the 20s 30s and 40s. It was a history lesson. Her mind was as sharp as a razor till the day she died.”
Jackie is not only a mother to Sylvester and Frank Stallone, she was also a mother to late actress Toni D’Alto who died aged 48 in 2012 from cancer.
Married three times, Jackie first married Frank Stallone in 1945. That marriage lasted 12 years before getting divorced in 1957, after having Sylvester and Frank Jr. In 1959, Jackie married Anthony Filiti, who is the father of her daughter, Toni D’Alto. Decades later, in 1998, Jackie married her current husband, Stephen Levine.
The “Queen of Hollywood”, a name attributed to her by her sons, was born Jacqueline Frances and reportedly ran away from home aged 15. Jackie briefly worked as an aerialist in the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Baily’s The Greatest Show on Earth.
She also became “the first woman to have a daily TV show on exercise and weight lifting in Washington, D.C.”As a result of this, she opened an all-female gym called Barbella’s. Jackie was probably best known for her passion for astrology, studying under Evangeline Adams, who was dubbed the ‘greatest astrologer of the Twentieth Century.’ It was supposedly her high profile involvement with the subject that led to “astrology being accepted as an accredited course in many colleges and universities.”
