Tom Parker from The Wanted has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. The announcement comes just weeks after he announced that his wife was pregnant with his second child. Their baby boy is due this November. The 32-year-old singer has stage four glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive tumour that spreads rapidly when not treated.
Tom posted on social media: “Hey guys, you know that we’ve both been quiet on social media for a few weeks and it’s time to tell you why.
There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment. We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way. We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way.
We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options. It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support, we are going to beat this. Tom and Kelsey xxx”
Tom first saw the doctor in July after having a seizure, he was put on a waiting list for an MRI scan. A further seizure six weeks later saw him rushed to hospital, where he finally had an MRI and his brain tumour was then detected. He added: “I’m still in complete shock, it’s so much to take in. I knew something wasn’t right, but I never expected it to be this. You never think this will happen to you.”
His wife Kelsey said: “It has been a crazy six weeks. We had an inkling that something was wrong in July, but we never could have imagined it was this.” Tom joined The Wanted alongside Jay McGuinness, Max George, Siva Kaneswaren, and Nathan Sykes in 2009. The band soon became famous with hits including Chasing The Sun, All Time Low and Glad You Came. They had 10 top 10 singles and two number ones in the Official Charts. They released three albums before they disbanded in 2014.
