The Christmas period has finally begun and it has been inaugurated by the new mix of Metallica with Mariah Carey.
The new mix blends the instrumental part of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” of Carey with riffs and vocals of James Hetfield that characterize “For Whom The Bell Tolls” with an impressive level of synchronicity.
Metallica’s song “For Whom the Bell Tolls” is from their second album, 1984’s Ride the Lightning, and it is considered as one of their greatest successes.
Infact, according to Setlist, it is known as the fourth most performed Metallica song, together with “One”.
Carey released “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on her 1994 album, Merry Christmas. At the time, the song has not been inserted on the Billboard Hot 100 as deemed unavailable commercially as a single. Howevere, from that moment, has become increasingly successful.
Yesterday, Carey announced the new mix on Twitter.
She uploaded a video of a masked man opening a door, only to find the singer of Metallica, dressed in a Christmas themed pajamas and sitting under a Christmas tree. “It’s time,” she says, before letting out a scream as the song begins.
At the same time, Metallica have been explaining what fans can expect from their next album. The bassist Rob Trujilo said: “I’m not gonna speak on behalf of the other guys, but to me, it feels like this could be a very collaborative” and he continued “And for me personally, I love that. I love that we are in that head space to be more collaborative, and I think that’s very exciting for where we’re at now, the journey we’re about to take, the fact that those doors are opening like that.” Their comments come after the declaration made by the drummer Lars Ulrich to NME, when he explained the challenges of writing new material together in lockdown.
Moreover, also Miley Cyrus recently revealed that she is working on a Metallica covers album.
